Our Year 2 – Hockney

Hello! Welcome to our class page and a taster of what we are learning about this term. Our teacher is Mrs Royce.

Here are some details about our class artist David Hockney OM (1937-).

Born in Bradford, he is an English painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. An important contributor to the Pop Art movement of the 1960s, he is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century. Whilst associated with the movement, his early works display expressionist elements are similar to some works by Francis Bacon. He lives in Yorkshire, London and California.

Please take a look, in more detail, at this term's curriculum.

NB. Our Key Stage 1 children have a dedicated phonics session 4 times a week. They follow the government's 'Letters and Sounds' document which is complemented with a range of resources and creative, practical activities. At Oundle CE Primary School children are exposed to books from a range of schemes and authors such as Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat and Rigby Star. This way children are exposed to a range of styles and do not become over reliant on and too familiar with one particular scheme. Reading in small guided groups happens daily as well as individual reading when appropriate. Year 1 children also participate in peer paired reading sessions with our older children and in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) aimed at encouraging a love of reading and appealing to different learning styles.
