Our Year 1 – Picasso

Hello! Welcome to our class page and a taster of what we are learning about this term. Our teachers are Mrs Glover and Mrs Fitton.

Here are some details about our class artist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973).

The Spaniard was famous for co-founding the Cubist movement and the invention of constructed sculpture. A versatile artist – he was also a printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright – he spent most of his adult life in France.

Many of Picasso popular works are colourful abstract portraits.

Please take a look, in more detail, at this term's curriculum.

NB. Our Key Stage 1 children have a dedicated phonics session 4 times a week. They follow the government's 'Letters and Sounds' document which is complemented with a range of resources and creative, practical activities. At Oundle CE Primary School children are exposed to books from a range of schemes and authors such as Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat and Rigby Star. This way children are exposed to a range of styles and do not become over reliant on and too familiar with one particular scheme. Reading in small guided groups happens daily as well as individual reading when appropriate. Year 1 children also participate in peer paired reading sessions with our older children and in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) aimed at encouraging a love of reading and appealing to different learning styles.
