Our Year 1 – Kandinsky

Hello! Welcome to our class page and a taster of what we are learning about this term. Our teacher is Miss Palmer.

Here are some details about our class artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944).

Kandinsky was a famous artist who was well known for his bright and colourful abstract art. Born in Russia, he is credited with painting one of the first purely abstract works. His most famous work is his jolly 'Concentric Circles' which children have great fun in imitating.

Please take a look, in more detail, at this term's curriculum.

NB. Our Key Stage 1 children have a dedicated phonics session 4 times a week. They follow the government's 'Letters and Sounds' document which is complemented with a range of resources and creative, practical activities. At Oundle CE Primary School children are exposed to books from a range of schemes and authors such as Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat and Rigby Star. This way children are exposed to a range of styles and do not become over reliant on and too familiar with one particular scheme. Reading in small guided groups happens daily as well as individual reading when appropriate. Year 1 children also participate in peer paired reading sessions with our older children and in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) aimed at encouraging a love of reading and appealing to different learning styles.
